Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

I bought my husband a watch as his wedding present. He borrowed a friends truck and accidently left it in the truck. We have tryed to get the watch from the friend and his now ex girlfriend and they say it is lost or stolen. This watch cost me at least 300 dollars and was very sentamental. What can I do now?
