Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

My father and grandfather owned a piece of land together. When my grandfather died his will was never read and my father paid all the taxes on the land. My father passed away 2 years ago and we found out that all my aunts and uncle now own 40% of this piece of land. They would not sign it over to us but signed it over to two of my cousins. They paid taxes for the first year. Is there anyway we can count all the years my dad paid for the taxes to our advantage? What do we need to do to be able to own all this piece of land. Thanks it is over 200 acres.

You need to check the title to this property. If your father and grandfather owned the property jointly with right of survivorship, then the property belonged to your father at your grandfather's death and then to your father's heirs. If they owned the property as Tenants in Common, then half of the property became part of your father's estate. You should contact an attorney to determine your rights.
