I filled out an application for a rental and signed a lease and paid $2000.00 deposit 3 days before I am ready to move in broker calls and says someone else got the apartment.

If you signed a lease (as opposed to a binder that may not be as protective), the landlord signed as well and you timely paid your deposit it would be hard for a broker to do what it did. You might want to check to see if the broker was a licensed broker. However, you didn't ask a question.
