Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Mortgage payments

I bought with a woman about a year before we married. Shortly after our marriage things fell apart, and I was forced to move out. I've been living in an apartment for 3 months, and I've continued to pay my share of the mortgage according to our joint tenancy agreement. She hasn't contributed anything to the mortgage since November. I have begun divorce proceedings, but things won't be settled for many months. We are now one month behind in mortgage payments, and will fall farther behind if she continues to not pay her share of the mortgage. Would it help to call the mortgage company to let them know what is going on? What action can the mortgage company take against me if I stop paying on the mortgage due to financial harship? Thank you.
