Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Hi I paid off my ex spouse an agreed upon amount which was half the value of the co op minus the mortgage to buy my ex out of the coop as part of divorce settlement. But the share and lease is still in both our names. How do I get ex spouse's name off? After the divorce I also paid off the mortgage that had both our names so there is no more mortgage. Also, do I need to pay a transfer tax in order to remove ex spouse's name? Thanks.

I presume this was done pursuant to some settlement agreement and/or Court order. It would seem that contacting the Coop Board and supplying them with a copy of the settlement agreement, they will change the documents. This might require a signature of your "ex" as well, so I suggest you contact the secretary of the Board to get their requirements for changing the name on the documents.
