Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

property owned by husband with many promises

Because my dad in law is terminally ill, my long time standing husband has agreed to sign a contract that changes his ownership status from 1/3 to 1/4 of the property. His mother is now entitled to her husbands half and the remaining half has been assigned to all three brothers that includes my husband. After marraige, I had pleaded and suffered in trying to have him sell his share of the property so we can make our own home with nothing but promises made about how everything we put into the home (mortgage payments) would be available to us when we would be ready to move out. I worked for a small period of time and contributed to the mortgage, as well I became a mother and could no longer continue working. Am I entitled to contest that contract that was signed by all parties without any concern for me? Would it help my chances if I divorced him? As it stands, I'm very disgusted with him for taking this matter into his own hands and I'm not willing to allow him to make any more decisions on behalf of me and my family. I plan to file for divorce anyhow. Keep in mind that he purchased the home we currently live in, with his parents one year prior to our marraige. Also, he's never wanted me to return to work.
