I recently found out by a trespassing Verizon worker that a box with a connection to all the phone lines on my block is in my backyard and when a line needs repair a worker needs to go into my backyard to fix it. If they refuse to remove the box did I have the right to remove it myself?

They most likely have a right of way on to your property.

You may not remove it without permission but you may ask them to relocate it.
