Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

When the resident of a life estate passes on, are all of deed transfer signatures (remaindermen) required in order to sell and /or rent the life estate property? The property is now up for sale and the other remainderman had no knowledge that it was up for sale. ( He found out on the internet) This is in New York State.

In order to transfer title to the property all remaindermen need to sign. The life estate ends when the holder dies.
