Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

tenants rights after a foreclosure

Hi, I live in upstate NY. The bank foreclosed on the rental property I live in, There are two apartments. I have lived in mine for 6 years, the people next door for twenty. Today we heard from a real estate rep who said he was working for the bank that foreclosed. Essentially th ebank will give us 1,000 dollars to leave by the 8th of feb...less than two weeks. They also gave the option to continue renting but did not disclose rent. Can we be thrown out in less than two weeks? What are our rights, if any....Tenants have been paying water bills and maintenance during foreclosure....Thanks, Monty

Unless you get a 30-day notice and leave, the new landlord neeeds to go to court to get you out if you hold over or do not pay rent.

Good Luck
