Legal Question in Social Security Law in New York

social security number access

I have just found out that someone has accessed my personal address AND social security number. I am fearful what this could mean regarding theft identity and possible damage to my personal credit history. What recourse do I have to find out ''legally'' how this information was obtained and stop this person from damaging me in any way.

Re: social security number access

I don't know how you would find out how this person obtained your address and social security number. Addresses are easy, you can go on Yahoo, or even the telephone book to obtain addresses.

Social security addresses are more difficult to obtain. But think about how many and how rescent you wrote out your social security number, and perhaps you can back track.

Contact those credit companies such as trw, etc and send them a letter that you believe there is possible fraud. They will redflag your account accordingly.

Go to FreeCredit Report.com and pull up your credit report. See if there is any unusual activity.

I doubt very much if you will be able to ascertain how the information leaked out.

But you can stop them from using it in the future as outlined above.
