Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

Charges relating to an altered license

I was recently stopped at a sobriety check point. I was riding in a taxi that went through a sobriety check point. I was asked to show my license to the officer. I gave him my drivers license and realized right after that the license had been altered to show that I was born in 1983 instead of 1988 so that I could get into a bar the night before. I was given a ticket and also told that I am going to be charged with a misdemeanor. I was also told I could have my license suspended for one year. I do not have anything else on my record. I do not even have a prior traffic violation. Should I hire a lawyer for this? Is there a chance that I can get the misdemeanor charges dropped? What will happen if I do get charged with a misdemeanor? Thank you for your help it is very much appreciated.
