Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

Driving on suspended regi - do we need a lawyer?

My insurance company changed their billing address without notifying me, so I sent my payment to the address I always sent it to. I received a cancellation notice, told them I mailed my payment and faxed them a copy of the money order they said they would look into it & told me of the new address. A week later received my payment back in the mail & called them. The agent could not believe their new office had done this & rewrote my policy. A few months later they lost a payment I sent, I cancelled my policy w/ them & opened one w/ another company. During all of this, my son got pulled over, he wasn't doing anything wrong, but he has a sporty car. The registration had been suspended for the insurance cancellation mentioned above. We went to court, and they said it was a misdemeanor and that he needed an attorney and set it for trial - he did not qualify for legal aid so we showed up for the trial w/o an attorney hoping to speak with the DA and have her drop it to driving w/o a registration after we explained the whole insurance thing, after all, it is not required by law to have an attorney. But after we sat there for 3 hours she refused to speak to us and set adjourned it for a month. What should we do? What can happen?

It is to your benefit to get a competent attorney to help you in this process. Your son is facing misdemeanor charges and this may ,unless resolved properly affect his future.I would like to help ,your son has a possible defense and at worst there will be a plea bargain which will hopefully assure your son will have a future without a criminal record. You may call my office for a free phone consultation @718-834-0087.
