Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

credit cards after death

My father died and there was no will. I was left a life insurance policy. How do I contact his credit card companies regarding his passing and what happens to his debt?

Re: credit cards after death

You can notify the credit card companies by mail or telephone and the accounts will be closed. If there is an unpaid balance due to a credit card company, then payment will be made out of any assets individually owned by your father at the time of his death. If you are the beneficiary of the life insurance policy, you are not required to use those funds to pay any of your father's death.
