Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

dad had handwritten changes he wanted to a trust, and also advised several people including his then-current wife that he wanted his son, not his current wife, as executor - on his deathbed he requested his attorney to come so he could sign changes - attorney refused to come since it was a weekend - dad died without signing anything - how can surviving children, including son dad wanted to act as executor, challenge this trust in New York?
