Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

distribution of mergered stocks

Two different company (co.a and co. b)stocks were bequeathed to two different people. One was bequeathed Co.a, the other Co.b

Before the deceased died stocks were merged into one entity (say Co.A).

Does the person who held Co. b stock lose his bequest.

How do I handle this?
