Go to the NYC Bar's website at: www.abcny.org/publications/executor.htm and you will get a good answer: 5% on 1st $100,000 + 4% on next $200,000 + 3% on next $700,000 (this is an average of 3.4% on the first $1 million) + 2.5% next $4 million. This is for the time consuming work for an executor.
