Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

I live in New York. I am the only maternal child of my recntly deceased father. He remarried 31 years ago, so i have a stepmother and 4 step siblings. What are my legal rights to his estate if any? If he did leave a will, how do I find out?

In the absence of a will, you are entitled to share in his estate. If there is a will and it is filed for probate, you will receive a Notice of Probate. At that point you will have certain rights; to examine the will, depose the attorney/draftsman of the will, etc. If the estate is substantial, you may want to retain counsel.
