Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

I lived in The Bronx with my boyfriend when he was murdered a few weeks ago. His family, who is friends with the funeral director, went behind my back and falsified his death certificate. They put their address as his last place of residence, the wrong date of birth, put he was never married when he was divorced, and put that he hadn't been to college. He was estranged from the family.

I posted his bail a few months ago, but the receipt is in his name. Also I need to get counseling services from the Office of Victim's Services, however, I believe the death certificate will prevent this from occurring.

Do I have any rights? Should I even pursue this? The funeral director can make the changes and knew that he lived with me but she wants to stay out of it. We filed tax returns together in the Bronx although both our driver's license is in another town.

It is possible that with joint tax returns showing a common address that you could could get some parts of death certificate corrected, but I doubt that without a Will or marriage certificate that you will be able to do more. Sorry for your loss.
