Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

In NY state what $ amt justifies over the limit for a small estate ?

My aunt's small estate is over the limit. So it is going to probate. Does this mean that other relatives not named in the WILL, will be entitled to part of her estate ?

Probate means only that the Will would be activated when presented to the Surrogate's office and the person named as Executor is appointed to handle the estate. Only the people named in tne Will share in the estate.
