Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Obligation to pay off Credit Card debts of parents

My father died and my sister is executor of estate. Only asest is a house that she left to 5 surviving children( one is diable with life use of house). Father had two credit cardswith outstanding balance of $700 on one and $1200 on another. My sisteris telling me that his attorney says that if the balance on the credit cards are not paid that she is liable. Does that sound correct? I don't really have the money to chip in to pay off these amonts, but don't want my sisterto have to pay. What are our options. Thank you.

Re: Obligation to pay off Credit Card debts of parents

Your father's estate is liable for his debts payable out of the assets. If the heirs don't want to sell the house to pay the debt, they need to settle up with the creditors.
