Queens NY-When does an estate have to close?

We have an estate to close. Is there a time line in which it needs to be closed? The executor was assigned in Fall 2006. Thank you.

We really don't close estates in New York. The Executor prepares an account (a schedule of all of his financial transactions and other pertinent data) and obtains a release from the beneficiaries
