Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

My sister passed away in 1995 in Beelvue Hospital in New York. She also has unclaimed money from a Mutual Fund and Lifea Insurance policy.
If I tried to claim this money would I be responsible for those bills after all this time?

Are they still sending bills or have they written them off as uncollected debts?
