Legal Question in Workers Comp in New York

former boss refuses to pay.

I used to work as an administrative asst. for a cellular company in ny. i ended up leaving w/o giving them a 2-week notice because of a family emergency. Now, my fmr. employer doesn't want to pay me for the last week that i worked for him. How can i make him give me my paycheck? I had tried to email them several times asking for it, but they refused to give it to me.

Re: former boss refuses to pay.

There are both Federal and State of NJ laws which protect your right to paid for time you've worked in this situation. In fact, because your employer has violated the law you may be entitled to 2 times the amount you should have been paid (as "liquidated" damages). I routinely handle cases like yours in NJ as well as FL and NY. I handle these cases on a contingency meaning I do not charge a fee unless and until successful. If you'd like to discuss this matter further please contact me for a free consult.
