NYS short term disability

My son hurt himself on his own personal time and now is out of work for probably 2 months. How do you get short term disability from NYS?

Re: NYS short term disability

His employer's human resource representative should be able to help. NYS Disability requires that the off the job injury arises within 6 weeks of your last employment. Many employers mistakenly refuse to assist in filing for disability claims because they feel they should not pay for off the job injury. If they refuse to help, he can file his own disability claim by getting the forms from the compensation Board. He would have to take the form to his doctor and then send it to the compensation board. Even though this is a disability claim (off job), the Compensation Board is the State Agency tasked with handling the claim.
