Legal Question in Technology Law in North Carolina

I'm a freelancer who has a client that is refusing to pay after months of work - he decided to go with a new designer and company. Some of my work is still being showcased and used on the current website. What legal steps should I take to get him to pay?

I've sent the second notice about to send the third and then I was going to have a lawyer draft a letter before sending it to collections. Does this seem like the right steps?

How you approach this depends on how much money is in controversy. The small claims court may be your best option if the amount is not more than 10K and you will not need to hire a lawyer to do that.

If you need help, I suggest that you consult with a lawyer in private and discuss your objectives in more detail. You can start by calling around to several for a free phone consultation, get some insights then pick the best fit to work with.

If you would like to discuss further over a free phone consult, feel free to contact me anytime that is convenient.

Our firm is now referred by the American Bar Association (see under the New York section): http://www.americanbar.org/groups/delivery_legal_services/resources/programs_to_help_those_with_moderate_income.html

Kind regards,

Frank
