Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

So I paid my motorcycle off a week later I get the title in the mail as well as a paper stating that my account is closed and I paid in full. Now I guess the payment never went through but I already have the title and states they released the lien off it. Do I still have to pay them? Do I have to send the title back? Can they sue me if I don't pay? I owed $3000

If I understand correctly, payment was made, and in anticipation of the payment clearing you were sent the title and a payoff letter and then the payment failed.

If the amount was in fact not paid, yes you still owe the money.
