Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

i accompanied a relative with a deputy sherriff so my relative could remove his property from his ex-wifes house. 3 months have gone by and now i have been charged with second degree trespass. i have never been told that i could not go to her house and there are no, no trespassing signs posted.
