Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

Caught with Alcohol in State Park
I was camping, and I was caught with alcohol in a state park. The park ranger gave me a ticket and said that I don't have to go to court. Is this just a fine, or will it go on my record as a misdemeanor? Should I go to court and try and get probation?
