Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

Legal definition of orgy

Hi, I've been searching the internet to try and find a legal definition for ''orgy'' as it pertains to the state of north carolina law code. It's just a question of curosity because at one time I heard that the legal definition had nothing to do with sexual activities and now I'm trying to determine if that was true or not. Thank you!

Re: Legal definition of orgy

I can assure you with a reasonable degree of confidence that the word "orgy" is not to be found in any North Carolina statute. There is no legal definition in North Carolina. Further, a search of North Carolina caselaw for more than 100 years has revealed only eight cases even using the term. It usually has a sexual context, but is also used to generally reflect bad behavior. There is one instance in which it is used to refer to legal action. Hinton v. Lacy, 137 S.E. 669, 675 (1927) (referring to "the wild orgy of bond issues"). It is, however, not defined by statute or case law. There are, of course, other terms which the law struggles to define, such as "obscenity," and "crimes against nature." The most interesting recent case addressed whether the act of "mooning" violates our laws against "indecent exposure," holding that it does depending on exactly how the act is performed, but clarifying that the buttocks are not "private parts." Hmmm.
