Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

Hello. I recently had an incident on a dating site. I met a girl who claimed to be 18. After a few days of talking I find out she is 17. I am 36. We have never met. We have never had any physical contact. However, tonight her father calls me saying she attempted suicide and he wants me to split a $5000 hospital bill. I'm not sure what to do here? I know I was in the wrong for encouraging this and she did exchange some provocative pictures with me. However, I never showed anything regarding full nudity. Please help. I feel like I'm being scammed. I feel like a creep. I'm not a bad person. Just lonely. I never would've pursued this had I just listened to my gut. Can you help me?

Seriously? You are 36 and don't know what to do here? You are being scammed - tell them they are scammers and to go away or you will call law enforcement. If you get served with a law suit, call an attorney - you'll have plenty of time to form a game plan then that doesn't include paying a cool 5k in blackmail money. Until that time (which likely will never happen because - its a scam) take solace in the old adage - there's nothing to worry about until there's something to worry about. BTW the age of consent in NC is 16. There's noting wrong with talking to a 17 year old who lied to you.
