simple assualt charge against a 17 year old

my son who is 16 yrs old was jumped on by 3 boys - 2 under age of 16 and one 17 year old. i have placed a simple assualt charge against the 17 yr old & we have a court date scheduled. my son didn't need medical treatment(just bruises, bloody nose, etc). i have never experienced anything like this before - what should i expect once we get to court? magistrate office didn't give me any instructions except date & time of court day. will i need witnesses to come to court also? should i have gone to juvenile cout for the other 2 boys? this problem with the boys has gone on for over 2 years, but when they ganged him - that was more than enough! what is involved in getting a restraining order against the teens? the incident happened in a public place but there has been an altercation at the boys high school - the school officer placed the assualt charge against the 17 yr old at that time. thank you for any advice you offer.

Re: simple assualt charge against a 17 year old

You should have all witnesses at court. You can ask the prosecutor to seek a restraining order against the kids. If this is the 17 yerar olds first incident, he will likely get probation, either unsupervised or supervised. This may scare him enough to cease his bullying your son. You can also ask the prosecutor about the other kids-if he will seek charges against them as well. If they were charged as a juvenile, you should have gone to that hearing to tell your sons side and to seek a restraining order.

Good luck
