Legal Question in Discrimination Law in North Carolina

Gender Discrimination in the Workplace

I am a female and have worked for a large company for the past 2 years. I make $10.73/hr plus commission. A man was just hired making $12/hr plus commission. He has a 2 year associates degree and no prior experience in this industry. I have a 4 year BS degree and again have been with this company for 2 years. I and feel that I am being discriminated against because he is male--name removed--that is why he is making more money than I am even though we have the exact same job description and job title. I have read a lot about the Walmart Civil Action Case and feel like its very similar to what I'm going through. Please advise me on what I can do about this and what my options are. I would love to talk with a lawyer about this before I speak to my employer. Thank you for your help!

Re: Gender Discrimination in the Workplace

Speak to a local employment rights attorney BEFORE approaching your employer. Try to get as many facts as you can before raising the issue, because once you say something, it raises liability flags in the organization and you'll be walled in.

The more information you have, the better position you'll be in to negotiate.
