Alimony & child support

A judge has made a decision of 250,000 for alimony to be paid all in one lump sum. Finanicals were from 2005 and I am currently not working. therefore, I do not have the money. Is there something that I can do to postpone payment until my finanical situation changes and avoid jail time?

You can file a motion to abate the payment based on the ground that it's currently not financially feasible. You should get a lawyer to help you with this, though, because these types of motions are rarely granted and because, as you already recognize, your freedom depends on it. The lawyer will tell you to make as much of a payment as you possibly can for now. You may have some appellate options as well, but you'll have to have the lawyer analyze your case to determine that.
