Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Help, my baby's father is serving papers on me to keep our 5 year old daughter . It was his week to keep her and he won't give her back to me . She is my world . I have no money for a lawyer . Is there any way to get free help so I won't lose her? Who do I talk to at the court house or sheriff's dept. ? Help please . Thank You , Brandy

1 Answer from Attorneys

The court house for sure and likely the Sheriff's department as well, can not help you. You are going to have to bite the bullet and come up with a way to hire an attorney. Custody is complicated and time consuming - so it tends to be expensive. You likely will not find free or even discounted representation but it never hurts to look. Best of luck.
