Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Civil Action

My fiancee has been served with a civil action -- a custody complaint by his wife regarding the custody of their 3 year old son. He has been told to file an answer within 30 days ... should we hire an attorney? Or is it possible to file the answer without using an attorney? And if so, how would one go about filing an answer?

You can file an answer without using an attorney, but if you want more than simply to let the plaintiff get their way, you'll hire an attorney. I don't advise performing surgery on yourself either.
