Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

custody of breastfeeding baby.

If I intend to breast feed my baby exclusively, can the biological father receive overnight custody? I already know that pumping doesn't work well for me since I already have a son who was born cleft lip and palate and had to pump, my milk supply only lasted 4 months.

Re: custody of breastfeeding baby.

Breast feeding as a preference is generally not a reason to suspend or stop overnight visitations because the mom can pump. However, if medical reasons were shown in court supporting the breast feeding and showing that pumping does not work, then the judge could suspend overnight visitations until the child is older.

But generally in the Eastern part of NC I have not seen this. My experience is the judge will order the overnight visitation.
