Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

I have full custody of my minor 14 yr old daughter and my 24 yr old daughter wants to get custody of her and has served me papers as an intervenor. Most of her accusations are strictly hear say and the others are not even towards my minor child. Do I need a lawyer to go to a hearing for this? She has a lawyer but I am a single mother and cannot afford one.
