Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

My girlfriend and I had a little girl last June of 2009. Back in April we decided to break up and she moved back home to North Carolina with out daughter. I have been paying her $400 a month in child support but it has been voluntary until we can get something established through the court system. I have been keeping cashiers checks stubs from every check I have sent her which include her name, my name, and the reason for the check being child support. My question is this: Is there still a way that I can be ordered to pay back child support from April when she left even if I have documentation that I have been paying her ever since?

Yes, but you should get credit for what you paid. You may not be paying the same amount that the court would order you to pay, so you may owe her some more money.
