Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

I have a good friend that is pregnant and does not want the baby. I have been asked to take the baby and I am willing (I don not have and am not able to have any children). Can she turn custody over to me at the hospital? If she changes her mind and I have sole custody what does she have to do to get the baby back?

Your only option here to have a situation where the biological mother cannot get the baby back is to go through a formal adoption, with the clerk of court. You may want to contact the clerk's office about that, and/or see a lawyer about that process. Unless you do this, the biological mother will have her parental rights, and she can probably get the baby back. (You could later seek to have her parental rights terminated, but that would add a lot of complexity.)
