Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

hello. I am getting ready to go through a custody trial with my ex husband. It has come to light that he signed away his parental rights to a child from another mother after the birth of our own daughter. This was about 17 years ago. Will this information to the court about his history have any bearing to my case of our own children?

Possibly. This is a prime example of why you should have an experienced trial attorney. This type of information could be useful, it could amount to nothing or it could hurt your case. An experienced trial attorney would make the decision whether to use that information or not based on their experience and assessment of the risk versus the benefit, likely on the fly during direct and / or cross examination of your ex-husband. This skill is very often the difference between winning and losing. Best of luck.
