Legal Question in Insurance Law in North Carolina

would like to know about life insurance after divorce.

I have a life insurance policy on husband and we are divorceing do I have to surrender this? May I keep it. Should I let the insurance company know we are divorceing.

The insurance policy is a piece of property just like a car or a piece of furniture. It is part of the marital estate and it will be included in your equitable distribution. If you are the owner and you are awarded the policy, you have the right to keep it and change the beneficiary so long as your equitable distribution order or any other Court order does not prohibit it.
