Legal Question in Employment Law in North Carolina

I started working at a place and on the first day I filled out paperwork for an I9 background check. and a week later some things came up from my past that were over 7 years old, and a couple PENDING charges. all related to dwi cases. my job did not require me to drive a company vehicle but I was still let go for "risk" of a security violation because of the nature of my position. I worked there a total of 5 days, and was let got for pending charges, can they legally do that?
