Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

I live in North Carolina ,I was late on my rent once. The landlord is insisting that I pay $5.a day late charge,But I read online in the landlord tenant laws

that the most she can charge me is $15 or 5% of the rent which ever is greater .Is this true?I have already paid my rent plus $15.but she is demanding $35 more.

And she insists that I send her the rent via Moneygram from Walmart at my expense that costs me another $25 fee and says if i don't she will go up on the rent if I don't.Can she do this?

I want to send her a money order(she lives in Florida).

I cannot affored to move .

Thank you for an answer to this question.

Under NC law, the landlord can charge you 5% or $15 whichever is greater. I don't know what your rent is but it would have to be $1,000.00 for her to charge you $50.

Also check your lease to see what is says in there. If it says that your late fee is $50 and the monthly rent is less than $1,000.00, you may not have to pay any late fee at all.
