Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

I,ve been renting a house for 6 years for that time I,ve been mowing the grass on the lot across the street from the house I.m renting for the land lord plus cleaned up storm damage from hurricane Irene and sandy.... never used the lot for myself just kept it mowed...now they want me to move so their daughter can have the house....she's been coming over when I'm at work telling my kids they have to move so she can live here....my question is can I be compensated for my work since they are throwing me out...I want 25 dollars each time I cut that lot 20 times a year for 6 years that's 3000 dollars and 1000 for cleaning up after hurricane Irene and 300 for sandy clean up ... total of 4300 I feel they owe me

Unfortunately, probably not. To be owed money you would need an agreement that shows you agreed to do this for a return payment. If you undertake an activity and then as the relationship sours, you can't unilaterally decide to charge. Next, if you do have an agreement or can prove you were to be compensated, you need to prove every single charge, you would need to have evidence of the mowing and all of the cleaning you did.

Finally, there is the statute of limitations, since you did work, you would have to proceed under a theory that you had a contract. Under the statute of limitations, you can sue for damages going back three years, so you would lose anything prior to three years before your suit.
