Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

I am a resident in North Carolina. I have been renting a home from landlord for nearly a year and a half. We have no written contract, we are on a verbal agreement. I fell behind in rent due to lack of work because I am in the construction business and it has been slow lately. I am started to catch up and just recently made a payment of $1000 just last week. My landlord took the money and a day later told me that I have three days to move out or the power will be off. He had no court order or eviction notice, this was stricly a threat. Sure enough, two days later my power was cut off and has been off for a week. It is the middle of winter and it is freezing cold. There is also a 16 month old baby staying here along with my wife and other two children. What should I do? Is it possible to sue my landlord?

This is very late and I hope you got the right advice. Your landlord conducted an illegal eviction and can be sued for damages.
