Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

Our tenants have abandoned our property after dodging us for 2 weeks and not telling us anything about a move. They owe two months rent and I have found from Facebook that they have moved to Ohio. I have no way of getting them to contact me back and I have no clue where they are at, making a summons impossible. I have already sent them a letter, last week, before I found out that they were gone, stating that they owed us 900. Do I have any rights?

You have several rights that you can employ. Whether you ever get the money is another story. First, you can sue them to get damages. Because they moved accross statelines, it is unlikely that you could do this without an attorney...which will likely cost more than $900.00.

Youc an also report this on their credit report. If you have never done this before, you should contact the credit bureaus to learn how to legally do so.
