Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in North Carolina

radiologist missed brain tumor

In 2002 friend went to VA hosp for anxiety and depression and an MRI was performed. Went on SSD for that. May 2006 headaches, dissiness and double vision started. CT was done by another radiologist told mormal. Neurosurgeon did MRI and benign epidermoid brain tumor on brain stem was found. On comparing old films from 2002 and most recent CT surgeon saw the tumor was on those films also. Surgery was performed and tumor was removed but vison problems still remain. He is unable to drive, lives with me now as he has distorted double vision. Since it was the VA hospital I am having trouble finding a lawyer. Does he have a case I am told he does. Where do I begin to find a lawyer here in NC. His life has been changed and so far a neuro optomologist is unsure if his sight will be regained. It is 6 months since the surgery. Had we been told of the tumor in 2002 it could have been taken out before his wsion was affected. Please advise as to what can be done.
