Assuming that you were negligent in hitting a rental car, then you would be liable both for the property damage, and for loss of use. Loss of use is generally the length of time that it would take to repair the vehicle. The fact that the vehicle is a rental vehicle does not alter the fact that a driver is responsible for property damage and loss of use arising from his negligence. You might of course want to consult with a lawyer and provide him or her more information to seek further guidance about this. There also could be insurance to cover this loss.
