Your wife might be entitled to compensation for her injuries. This includes medical bills, scarring, any lost wages, and pain and suffering. Dog bite law is somewhat complicated; it is not an area of "strict liability" (meaning: that the dog owner is not automatically liable when his dog bites someone). For this reason, you should probably consult with a lawyer to discuss this further. We typically look to the dog owner's homeowners (or renter's) insurance policy to cover the claim. I have handled numerous dog bite claims.
