Legal Question in Product Liability in North Carolina

My husband and I recently bought a truck from a used car lot. We bought the car under the understanding that we were buying it 'as is' and we knew that. There's about 197000 miles on the truck. We test drove the truck and it ran fine. We went through special financing with the dealership and put 1k down on the truck and we have about 2 years left to pay off the truck. After 2 days of having the truck, it started giving us issues...we took it to the mechanic and it's an engine issue and it'll be 3000 dollars to fix it. We have rights correct? This isn't right. We don't know what to do.

Unfortunately, your rights are limited once you purchase the vehicle. There is no lemon law for used cars in NC. This means that you have to rely upon a warranty. If the car was sold "AS IS," the likelihood that there is a warranty is very low.

Now, if the dealer lied to you.

You- " Any problems with the truck"

Dealer "No, we had her checked out and everything is perfect"

Then you may have claims if, you can show the dealer knew there were problems with the vehicle and the problems existed when you purchased it.

When you purchase a vehicle with such high miles it is best to test drive it and have it checked out by an independent mechanic before purchasing.
